Week Nine - Typography & Designing Our Own Money

With fonts (or typefaces) so widely available today, it’s easy to overlook the importance and subtle beauty in letterforms. But ask any wedding planner or graphic designer and they’ll tell you how much typography affects all of us.

Realizing the quiet power of the alphabet, the students had a chance to express themselves through a single letter - the first letter in their first name.

In the second half of class, they pretended they were kings and queens and had to design their kingdom’s official currency. We looked at real world samples and discovered that countries often chose to decorate their money with important people, places, and animals.

And don’t worry: we touched on what counterfeiting and that it’s a big no-no.
