Class Information

Curriculum

My curriculum is a blend of lessons I learned as an art student and things I had fun making (or treasured) as a child. It’s designed to build their creative knowledge and skills through an activity they have a natural interest in.

Class Rules

  1. Be nice.

  2. Try your best.

Class Sections

Class will consist of two (2) parts:

  1. Warm UP!

  2. Main Projects

Warm UP! (10-15 minutes)

After a quick physical exercise, we will do two (2) short creative exercises to get ready for the main activities. Some examples include:

  • Superline - they draw something, but using a single line

  • Other Hand - they draw something, but use their non-dominant hand

  • No Look - they draw something, but cannot look at the paper until they finish

  • Quick Draw - given a prompt, they quickly sketch the object

Main Projects (remainder of time)

There will be two main activities they will take on. While each workshop varies, some examples include:

  • New Animal Scientist - we will randomly select features of existing animals and combine them together to create a new one that students will have to depict visually.

  • Scene It - we’ll pick our favorite places and visually re-create it, discussing the various elements one-by-one.

  • Hawaii Pokemon Trading Cards - students can make their own Pokemon trading cards but using local animals as inspiration.

  • Zines - we’ll make our own zines using a single piece of paper. A zine is a small booklet that can be made into anything the creator wants - a story, a game manual, a map, a catalog, a restaurant menu - anything!
